Music of China – Listening Glyphs and Worksheets

$3.00

Music of China – Listening Glyphs and Worksheets

Description

An easy-to-use, print-and-go, world music listening activity for elementary music lessons. These activities will work well for grades 1 – 5  (3 versions of worksheets are included). Students will be exposed to a variety of Chinese instruments and music (from ancient melodies to 20th-century music).

3 different variations of printable worksheets are included to let you adapt the activity to a variety of ages or grades (perfect for homeschool families or elementary music classrooms) The 3 versions are:

  • Listening glyphs using music terms (allegro, adagio, forte, piano, and so on)
  • Listening glyphs using general words (fast, slow, loud, quiet, and so on)
  • Worksheets encouraging younger students to listen, draw and circle a response to 2 questions.

To complete a listening glyph, students will be asked to color a picture according to what they hear. For example, if the listening glyph asks them to color the sun yellow if the music is loud or orange if the music is quiet, and they hear loud music, then they should color the sun yellow. Please look through the images above to see examples of the worksheets.

Both the listening glyph versions (music and general) will ask to identify a few Chinese musical instruments since this is one of the learning goals of this activity. Examples of each instrument (in the form of YouTube links) are included, so you don’t need any pre-existing knowledge.

Included:

  • Recommended listening links (YouTube links to instrument examples and the included songs).
  • Definitions of the music terms.
  • 10 listening glyphs each with musical and with general terms (includes 1 with a blank title for students to fill in your choice of musical piece)
  • 11 worksheets to listen, draw, an circle (includes 2 variations with blank titles for students to fill in your choice of musical piece)
  • There is no answer key included as the answers could vary.
