6 Valentine’s Day Music Games & Activities You’ll Love

Are you looking for some new Valentine’s Day music games and activities to get your students excited this year? Here are six low-prep activities you and your students will love!

Valentine’s Day Music Bingo Game

Everyone loves a bingo game, and music bingo is even more fun!

Instead of calling a number, play an excerpt from a Valentine’s Day song. Can your students guess the song before you call the title?

Everyone with that song on their card will mark it off like in traditional bingo.

Continue playing excerpts from songs until someone calls BINGO, and you have a winner.

Find my print-and-go bingo game here.

Of course, Valentine’s Day music for elementary and middle school can be a bit tricky. Below is a playlist of my favorite love and friendship-themed music. Of course, what is appropriate may vary based on your school/family, so always preview music yourself.

Valentine’s Day Music Listening Activities

If you haven’t ever tried listening glyphs, you’re missing out!

Listening glyphs direct students to color a picture based on what they hear in the music. They’re a great way to build active listening skills and to practice basic musical terms.

Just put on a piece of music and have your students follow the simple directions on each page to color the Valentine’s Day-themed pictures according to what they hear. For example, they might color the rose red if the music is forte/loud but yellow if the music is piano/quiet.

Purchase the Valentine’s Day music listening glyphs & worksheets (in 3 levels!) here.

Sweetheart Rhythms – a Rhythm Game for Valentine’s Day

Sweetheart Rhythms is my Valentine’s Day music game twist on ‘Poison Rhythm.’ If you’ve been here long, you’ll know ‘Poison’ is one of my favorite rhythm review games.

You can find the full Poison Rhythm game instructions here.

In this version, one rhythm is designated as the ‘sour rhythm.’ If anyone claps the sour rhythm, they will be ‘out.’

Students progress through a series of rhythms, clapping each one. If they clap the ‘sour rhythm’ when it comes up they are ‘out.’ Continue playing until you run out of new rhythms or until one person is left.

Sweetheart Rhythms is a fun, fast-paced game that your students will love. It’s the perfect addition to the end of class.

Find Sweetheart Rhythms in 3 levels here.

Valentine’s Day Music Escape Room Activity

Sometimes Valentine’s Day can be a bit of a write-off for learning, with all the excitement and extra activities happening throughout the day. If that’s the case for you, I highly recommend trying this Valentine’s Day-themed music escape room.

It’s the perfect party-day activity that will get your students excited and engaged. But it also uses all those musical skills you’ve been working on, and you will love seeing your students racing to use the skills you’ve taught them.

Purchase my print-and-go (very low prep – just print and read the directions) Valentine’s Day Music Escape Room here. Can your students escape in time?

Valentine’s Day Color by Music Activities

Color by music worksheets are always a hit for when you need a quiet activity that students enjoy. Try leaving these Valentine’s Day music activities for a sub or use them in centers or with early finishers.

Valentine’s Day Freeze Dance

Get your students moving with a game of freeze dance! Check out the playlist at the top of this post for music ideas.

You can a bit of an educational twist by asking students to vary how they move based on the music. For example, can they make small movements if the music is ‘piano’ and large movements if the music is ‘forte’.

If your group can’t always handle moving freely around the room, try playing freeze dance with the added rule that they must stay on their spot (they can only move and dance in place).
